Anders Holst caught my ear when Live365 added his music to the music library.  He’s one of those singers you can really feel at ease with.

I interviewed the native of Sweden via phone in March, ’09.  The singer/songwriter got his start in music by listening to classic hit makers as a young child.   “Duke Ellington. Glenn Miller. Artie Shaw.  Our house was filled with jazz albums…it’s a broad mixture.”   Other influences were Peter Gabriel as well as other artists, who as he put it “gave an ambient sound to their music.”

He wrote his first song at the age of 11 when he was performing in a band with his older brother.   “It was called ‘When the Raining Starts’ and it was about a guy venturing to town who wanted to meet his girlfriend and the rain gets in the way.”

His latest release, “Romantika”, mixes soul music and European-style pop with a touch of jazz infused, resulting in a refreshing sound that everyone will enjoy.

His musical style has won the praise of legendary composer Quincy Jones, who commented, “His (Anders) honest and original love songs can give romantic music a brand new chance.  Do your heart a favor and check him out.”

If a great composer like Quincy Jones can recommend Anders Holst’s music, then he’s definitely on the road to greatness!
