Ken Navarro Interview

August 31st, 2008

Last summer, guitarist Ken Navarro gave a concert at the Glenora Wine Cellars in Geneva, New York.

I dropped a note to the guitarist via email stating that I wanted to interview him for my Internet radio station. All signs were “go” for the dialogue to happen.

However, I found out I needed to be in Canada that same weekend. So, I had to reschedule the interview for the morning before my work shift started, which Navarro was more than happy to oblige.

One of the first questions I asked him about was the new CD, “The Grace of Summer Light”.

“It’s clearly the most ambitious project I’ve ever done”, said Navarro. “...it's so important for an artist to continue to grow...that's something you owe to your audience.”

Prior to a world-wide release, Navarro sampled his a track to various audiences on the internet, with the result being, some of the most glowing reviews he's ever received.

"It was amazing! the response was overwelming! I was glad the people really "got it!"

Navarro has been releasing albums now on his self owned, “Positive Music” label now for the last 16 years. He first received recognition as a solo artist in 1990 with his song "Try Again" from the debut CD, “The River Flows.”

Other well known songs from his 18 releases include "Eric's Dream", "Delicioso", "Smooth Sensation", "You Are Everything" and "The Meeting Place".

Navarro has produced numerous recordings of other music artists. Contemporary jazz musicians who’ve made the include saxophonist Eric Darius & pianist Greg Karrukas, whose album, “Sound of Emotion” was one of my favorite’s from the early 90’s.

He’s also been featured with other notable contemporary jazz artists, including saxophonists Kim Waters, Brandon Fields and Eric Marienthal.
