When you think of the jazz saxophone, who do you think of?
Charlie Parker? John Coltrane? Ornette Coleman? Well, how about Paula Atherton? That's right! Female saxophone players have been making strong in-roads into the male dominated jazz genre.
The New York native says they've always had female jazz sax players in the business. "They've just haven't been brought to the surface until now." She joins fellow sax players Candy Dulfer, Jessy J, Mindi Abair and Pamela Williams in breaking the gender stereotypes.
Her new CD, "Groove With Me" is her second release and she showcases both her sax playing and her ability on the woodwinds. She's joined by a host of professionals on the release such as trumpeter Greg Adams, guitarist Chieli Minucci and pianist and composer Onaje Allan Gumbs.
No doubt, her career seems to very bright!
